Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Diagnosis & Treatment

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal Tunnel is the ompression of the median nerve at the wrist. This causes numbness in the hand, thumb, and fingers.

Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome:

Carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms vary, but typically symptoms consit of hand and wrist pain, numbness, weakness in specific hand muscles,and/or abnormal "tingling" sensations known as parasthesias. Sometimes pain can extend up the arm.A shaking movemnt of the hand often temporarily relieves these symptoms.

How is the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome made?

The orthopedist will look for changes in sensation as well as weakness in the muscles which are controlled by the median nerve - a nerve that travels in the carpal tunnel. Other simple tests may be necessary to diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome.
